Morning friends…

Just a quick post for now. I have to share this video because I LOVE this guy! Shaun T, the creator of the Beachbody program Insanity, was on the Tyra Banks show earlier this week.

He is positively ADORABLE but don't let that sway you…he will kick your booty like no one else has. I'm super excited for this guy because of the recognition he is getting. This program is unreal and I have to show you how cute he looks on that stage! :)

This sounds really cool! It is very similar to they kinds of exercises we do in Booty Camp (http://www.bootycampfitness.com).

My only concern is that it seems *really* high impact. I have super weak joints – which is why I'm stopping boot camp soon :( – and so it's tough to do super intense workouts like this…I even find that low-intensity options cause some pain. bah!

  2. Hi Darryn! Welcome :)

Insanity is very similar to some boot camps. The style is "drill like" in the sense that you are moving from one set of exercises to another very quickly, constantly keeping your heart rate up. I think what some really enjoy about it is there is no choreography to learn. :) You just work hard and push hard!

Some of it absolutely is high impact so I would absolutely caution you initially if you ever have joint pain. Though I will say this, even if you keep your feet firmly planted on the ground and don't jump…you will still have the workout of your life with Insanity. The first time I did it, I was dying at the end of the warm up alone. A good dying of course! Are you taking supplements for your joints?

  3. Darryn says:

    Thanks for your response Jenn!

I definitely like the idea of no choreography (can we say uncoordinated?! haha).

No, I'm not taking anything for my joints. In fact, it never even crossed my mind – I just figured I would ease up on the high intensity activity. Do you know of any supplements that are helpful?

I think part of the reason I get a lot of joint pain is because I hyper extend almost everywhere…elbows, wrists, knees, even my fingers :S Even when I move consciously to avoid it, it inevitably happens when I get into high-impact activity.

    Jenn,
That video was GREAT. You are correct dear in the fact that he is a cutie. Ecspecially when he lifted his shirt :) Anyway, that workout looks fantastic and I'll have to remember it for after I complete my ChaLean Extreme Challenge, or if towards the end I'm kicking so much booty that I need to add something more :) Thanks for the great info.

  5. My friend hyperextends in her elbows and knees as well. It can definitely make faster movement more difficult to control but not impossible.

There are a few supplements out there that are shown to greatly help joints.
    1. Glucosamine chondroitin- I have always used a supplement with GC in it. It helped me a GREAT deal when I was running a lot. One great site is Osteo Bi-flex. They manufacture a product that I've used but the site is helpful alone.

    2. Fish oil- though typically used to increase omega 3 fats, this can be a great supplement for inflammation that may influence your joint pain. I always start with WebMd when I'm wanting to educate myself.

    3. Combo supplement- I started taking a joint supplement made by Beachbody over a year ago. It has collagen, glucosamine, fish oil among a few other ingredients that I read about and liked a lot. That has worked well for me. I'd be happy to send you some info on it if you'd like! Or if you go here you can search all of their vitamin info by starting at the store button on the left.

    I hope that helps!

  6. You WILL be kicking so much booty my dear! :) Brian best get ready!

  7. Darryn says:

Ahhh thanks so much for all this helpful info Jenn! I really appreciate it. I have some reading to do! :)

  8. You're welcome Darryn!

Just be sure to email me if you have any questions. Sometimes all of the info available out there is VERY overwhelming.

Oh my gosh, I just got Insanity! I did a week of it and ended up getting pink eye and have had to wear my glasses which didn't do too well with all of the sweat! I'm starting it back up again on Monday. I'm in love with it and can't wait to see the results! I loved P90X, too, but am super excited for more cardio and more core work in this program. :) I'm so excited there are others in the health blog world that do this program!

I remember how intense it was that first week. My right knee started hurting from all of the impact. I went to hot yoga one evening and it felt much better. I have a question for you. Do you think by doing Insanity in the mornings before work and going to hot yoga in the evenings would be too much? I'll have to make sure I get the appropriate nutrients and the right amounts throughout the day. :)

    Thanks!

  10. Hi Kate!

Insanity is such a crazy, good workout. There are TONS of us out there who use those programs! Email me!

So, in terms of your knee. One thing to always pay attention to with cardio like Insanity is form. Watch your form. If you get too tired and you lose form- take a BREAK! And then begin again after even just 15-30 seconds. Secondly, if you feel any sort of joint discomfort or pain I would modify the move to make it low impact. You can make ANYTHING work for you low impact. But listen to your body! Keep an eye on it!

Yoga + Insanity everyday…wow. That would be a lot. My only concern is that hot yoga is typically more intense on the body so I don't know if I would do it everyday. Maybe 2-3 times a week would be my thought. Definitely watch your food. Insanity burns an incredible amount of energy as you know so recovery meals + fuel throughout the day is a huge part of getting results! :)

Why don't you email me and we can come up with a schedule for ya? :)
