Come on out 2011

"We will open the book.  Its pages are blank.  We are going to put words on them ourselves.  The book is called Opportunity and its first chapter is New Year's Day."  ~Edith Lovejoy Pierce

That's how I feel about the beginning of 2011…

A New book.

An open book.

YOUR book.

You decide. You create.

We can control what happens in our lives with a few simple actions:

– create a set of goals that speak to the core of who you are

– look at those goals every. single. day.

– make your list and check it more than twice! your goals are the beginning point but your daily list is what will help propel you forward!

New Years resolutions, goals, and dreams have a really bad rap. I used to despise them and would have nothing to do with the process. That was because I would always create these outlandish resolutions that had nothing to do with what I TRULY wanted in my life or were written in a way that meant nothing to WHO I WAS and then…

by February they would be buried on the table next to my bed.

by March I would have forgotten about them.

by April life would feel just as it did in December- lackluster and not focused.

So here we are a few years later and I love, love, love me some goals! They provide all the motivation in the world to create anything and everything in my life! Goals are my dreams. And I believe that I can all of it!

Goals for 2011

This year's theme: believe in myself.

Angela created a theme for herself this year and I LOVED that concept. This theme is what will serve as my guide. I write alot about believing in who you are, what you can do and what you can create but it is NOT an easy thing to live at times. I have the tendency to give up on myself in a heartbeat. The minute I am afraid, the minute I fail or the minute something goes wrong I am to blame. This year it is time to strengthen my belief in ME. To know I can do, have, and be.

"Develop an attitude of gratitude, and give thanks for everything that happens to you, knowing that every step forward is a step toward achieving something bigger and better than your current situation." ~ Brian Tracy

1. Triple my wellness coaching practice.

That's quite a big and intimidating number for me. I have some incredible, incredible clients right now! I am loving every minute of my coaching but I am ready for more…a lot more.

In 2011 I will have tripled my client practice. Done and done.

"You are never too old to set another goal or to dream a new dream."  ~ C.S. Lewis

2. Establish my practice locally.

It's been wild to see how my coaching practice has grown. All of my clients have come from this lovely little blog and live in various parts of the country. I am ready to get my Boston practice established and growing!

3. Complete a century ride.

I'm calling 2011 the year of endurance events! Since 2005 when I injured my back, I have been very slowly and progressively building my strength to a point where I can walk, run, and move without pain. I'm finally here and I know my body is ready for a new adventure! A century ride will be step #1. I haven't decided what ride yet but it will be in the summer and it will most definitely be for charity!

4. Complete an Olympic triathlon.

My brother has now completed 8 Ironman races. He is a different species than me. Sometimes I don't know how he is my brother and how he walks around on a daily basis. But he is inspiring. His dedication has rubbed off on me and I want to go after an Olympic race this year.

"The more intensely we feel about an idea or a goal, the more assuredly the idea, buried deep in our subconscious, will direct us along the path to its fulfillment." ~Earl Nightingale

5. Save 10% of my income and place savings in an account.

This one is a biggie. I'm relatively good at "saving" but then I don't  do anything with the $$$ and somehow it either sits in my account or eventually gets spent! Not good. So this year I will be saving 12% every month and placing it all into a beautiful savings account that can GROW.

6. Raise money and give to charity.

I want to pick 3 charities this year so I can spread some of that love. One charity I will simply give to myself. One charity I will raise money for during my century ride. And one final charity I will raise money for in a new, creative and fantastic way here on LiveWellFitNow.

“You gain strength, courage, and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face…You must do the thing you think you cannot do.” ~ Eleanor Roosevelt

7. Strive to live as a normal eater each day.

Me + food still have a tough relationship some days. I work hard and I fail often. But that is the beauty of life! This year I will be using these ideas each day to help me move closer and closer to that definition. My desire to be a normal eater has nothing to do with my weight, my body or how it looks. It has everything to do with the desire to live WELL, to feel WELL and to treat my body WELL.

8. Teach 4 classes a week.

Teaching group fitness classes is a new and special love for me. I can't quite describe what happens in a class but a part of me just comes alive! I have a BLAST! My worries, fears, stresses or doubts disappear when I teach and I am completely present. And I love how that happens. So in 2011 I will be teaching kickboxing or spinning 4 days a week!

“I was always looking outside myself for strength and confidence, but it comes from within. It is there all the time.” — Anna Freud

9. Complete the Institute for Integrative Nutrition program.

This is a new professional adventure for me! I discovered IIN a number of months ago through Christie and a few professional acquaintances. After digging through research and talking to many coaches who had completed the program…I knew this was my next step. This program will give me so much information that I am dying to get my hands on and will round out everything that I want to do as a coach.

So, I will be completing the IIN coaching program in 2011 certifying me as a holistic nutrition and health coach. Bam! So fabulous!

"Move out of your comfort zone. You can only grow if you are willing to feel awkward and uncomfortable when you try something new." ~ Brian Tracy

10. Make time for those I love.

I have a husband who inspires me every day, a family that I love with every piece of me, and friends that make me laugh and enjoy laugh more than I could ever imagine. These are the people who make me who I am and who help me grow. I want more time with them! It is so easy to go on autopilot, to drown yourself in work, and to miss the people who love you. Not this year…I will be making more time each week for these amazing individuals.

11. Be bold.

That may sound vague but this goal is my reminder to take a risk, to do what scares me, to try something new OFTEN, to see things I didn't think I could, to go places I have always wanted. I want to be BOLD in 2011. I want my end of year recap to include things I never thought I could!!

"Any day we wish; we can discipline ourselves to change it all. Any day we wish; we can open the book that will open our mind to new knowledge. Any day we wish; we can start a new activity. Any day we wish; we can start the process of life change. We can do it immediately, or next week, or next month, or next year". – Jim Rohn

12. Commit to my goals.

Because they are so easy to forget. Commitment means deciding over and over and over again that these are important to me and that I will have them. Commitment means striving, doing, and acting each day. Commitment can be simple, simple choices and simple decisions. But in order to claim a goal, we have to commit often!

There ya have it. My hopes and dreams for 2011. There are a few more on that list that I keep between me and myself. A girl has got to have secrets. :)

“Whatever you can do or dream you can, begin it.

Boldness has genius, power, and magic in it.”  — Goethe

Happy New Year, Jenn! This is Melissa, Colleen's sister. :-) I finally subscribed to your blog so I can make it a habit to read it more regularly. Your posts are always so positive and interesting/informative! Your list is great and very inspiring! I wanted to let you know about a century ride that I'm thinking of participating in this summer, in case you're interested! The walk/bike event is called The Prouty, and this year's will be the 30th annual! It benefits the Norris Cotton Cancer Center at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH. (I used to work there – a great place and a great cause)

There are all different distances for walking and biking, and the routes go through beautiful parts of NH and VT. I participated for the first time last summer and biked 50 miles, but felt like I could have done more; that's why I'm thinking 100 miles this year! It was a wonderful experience though. The event is VERY well-organized, and the participants and volunteers are all very inspiring, especially seeing cancer survivors participating. Anyway, I know it would be a drive for you, but I just wanted to let you know! Take care; hope to see you in person someday soon! :-)
